Bangkok's dazzling temples are a unique part of the capital's heart and soul. The temples (or "Wats") are not just tourist attractions but also play an important part in Buddhist traditions. Monks live in the temple complexes, get up around 4 am, attend to prayers and duties and then collect food and necessities from ordinary people on the streets. |
Koh Samui, the beautiful island of the coconut trees, is the third largest Thai island. (Only Phuket and Koh Chang are bigger) The area is about 247 square km's and it is located 700 km south of Bangkok. Well known beaches are Chaweng, Lamai, Bophut, Big Buddha, Choeng Mon, Hua Thanon and Maenam. Samui also has many sister islands; Koh Tao, (One of the top diving islands in Asia) Koh Phangan and the Angthong National Marine Park. The town on Samui is named Nathon. You will find banks, post offices, restaurants and a few shops etc. here, but it's is not a place where most people stay. There are many exchange offices and ATM machines around the island. Nathon also has a rather long pier where boats from mainland of Thailand arrives. Most beaches has white sand and are fringed with coconut palms. Many resorts and hotels are located just a couple of meters from the beach. |
