Description
Tranquil and charming a short distance from the lake
Opened in the 1920s, Deer Lodge is a traditional Rockies retreat just as you had imagined it. You will be a short walk from the shores of Lake Louise and a number of mountain hiking trails. Seasonal activities in the local area include hiking, canoeing, white water rafting, and a winter wonderland of sleigh rides around the lake, dog sledding and cross-country skiing. In the evenings, relax by the stone fireplace or gaze at the stars from the outdoor rooftop hot tub.
The excellent Mount Fairview Dining Room serves Rocky Mountain Cuisine, with its roots in the Victorian rail and Swiss and Austrian mountain guides’ cooking. You’ll find smoked, cured or roasted game, fresh berries, wild fruits, vegetables, mushrooms and mixed grains alongside an award-winning wine list. The casual Caribou Lounge, with magnificent views of the Victoria Glacier, is an excellent spot for afternoon tea or light meals.
With just 71 sensitively decorated rooms, Deer Lodge is characterised by a respect for the past and a sense of escape from the modern world. All have telephones but none have televisions, to better facilitate your relaxation. The original Tower Rooms were renovated to the specifications of the Historical Society and have retained their original cast iron radiators, woodwork, lighting and brass fixtures.
