Description
An elegant tea plantation overlooking the Himalayas.
A real home away from home, the beautiful Glenburn Tea Estate sits in acre upon acre of tea plantations. Located about 1½ hours from Darjeeling, this welcoming resort is a blissful hideaway from busy modern-day life. Hosted by the Prakash family, you’ll be made to feel part of the family at this stunning boutique hotel. Your hosts carry almost a century of tea knowledge and heritage, stories of which they’ll happily tell you in the elegant drawing room. The two bungalows, the Burra Bungalow and the Water Lily Bungalow each have four suites and common areas, gardens, verandas and terraces. All rooms feature hand-embroidered bed linen, baskets of fresh fruit and vases of fresh flowers from the garden. Most en-suites have an old-fashioned bath tub with Darjeeling Green Tea toiletries.
Fine food and drink are very much a part of the Glenburn experience and much of the produce used is grown in the hotel’s own gardens. Specialities include family recipes such as tea-leaf pakoras, chocolate brownies, Tibetan momos and Burmese khow suey, as well as home-baked bread, marmalade and a collection of signature cakes and cookies. Try the Glenburn tea and nimboo pani, their refreshing homemade lemonade. Breakfast and lunch are served in the bright Morning Room or on a terrace overlooking the mountains; dinner is a sophisticated sit-down affair in the candle-lit intimacy of The Dining Room, along with the hosts and any other guests in residence. With hiking, river rafting, the Glenburn Tea Experience and cookery classes on offer, there’s plenty to fill your days at this wonderful mountain retreat.
