Description

A relaxed and friendly lodge ideal for families or groups
Perched high above the sweeping plains of the Kariega Game Reserve and the rivers that majestically carve their way through them, Kariega Main Lodge has unrivalled views that sweep across the spectacular valley. Its communal feel makes it ideal for groups, and it’s a great place to add to your self-drive holiday as each of the log cabins has its own parking space. There are plenty of opportunities to socialise with your fellow guests, with traditional meals served in the restaurant or boma, drinks available at the bar, and a swimming pool for a refreshing dip.

The authentic log cabins are designed and built to blend in with the surrounding natural environment. Each chalet is fully air-conditioned and features en-suite bedrooms, a spacious lounge with a fireplace and a private viewing deck from which you can admire the Kariega River Valley and the tranquil African bush below. Some cabins even feature their own private plunge pool, the perfect place to relax after a long day of discovery.

Kuoni Insider
We stayed in Cape Town for a few days and then followed the Garden Route, ending up at Kariega Game Reserve. What a special place! The emphasis on service is second to none. We were given an upgrade on arrival as my son (age 6 at the time) was disappointed there was no swimming pool. After he pointed this out in no uncertain terms to the Manager we were driven to our lodge which had its own private pool overlooking the reserve. One happy little boy! Our first game drive that evening was unreal in that 5 minutes into it a female rhino and her calve wandered out of the bush and used the jeep as a scratching post. The next morning, after a fantastic breakfast, we set off again and witnessed an elephant seeing off some lions – incredible. Our ranger was a mine of information and extremely humorous with it. The only animal on our list which we didn’t see was an aardvark – maybe aardvarks were off that day, who knows!
