An ever-popular hotel on Kauai’s beautiful South Shore that is perfect for couples and honeymooners.
With its blink-and-you’ll-miss-it entrance this hotel has a bit of a hidden-away air about it. Although not strictly boutique hotel, the Ko’a Kea has a small hotel vibe about it, especially when you compare it to its bigger and livelier neighbours. If you want a romantic escape but still want to make this most of a beach resort setting, this is the place for you. The hotel is centred on a free-form pool, lava rock hot tub and thatched beach bar and from here it’s just a few steps to the sheltered, rocky cove with some small waves; it’s a great location if you want to try out surfing but would rather not face the big rollers this part of the world is known for.
The rooms are simple is style with splashes of colour and each features a balcony or lanai where you should at least be able hear the waves even if can’t see them. We highly recommend opting for one of the Partial Ocean View or Ocean View Guest rooms, or even better, the Ocean Front Rooms. There are also wonderfully spacious suites that have a living area and ocean views.
Red Salt is the hotel’s main restaurant and the focus here is on providing mouthwatering Hawaiian dishes and dishes range from prime steaks to catch-of-the-day sea food. The executive chef was born and bred on the island so knows where to source the best and freshest produce. Following dinner, and once the sun’s gone down, one of the best spots to be is by one of the hotel’s cosy fire pits that are surrounded by Adirondack chairs.
