Description

The setting of this Neilson Beachclub is simply magnificent, stunningly beautiful with pretty little coves, lush green hills, secluded beaches and glorious views of the shimmering turquoise and green Ionian Sea
A collection of beaches forms the edge of the watersports area and a unique feature of the Retreat Beachclub is a shallow sand bar that leads the way through warm shallow waters to the sailing beach on a tiny wooded island. The flat water and light winds ensures fantastic conditions for waterskiing and wakeboarding, whilst the surrounding bay and coves are excellent for stand up paddle boarding and kayaking.

Nestled amongst a wooded hillside, rooms sit between terraced gardens and are linked by a series of stone pathways and steps, which lead down to the waterfront below. The aptly named Retreat Beachclub is an idyllic haven that draws people back time and time again.

Take a ten minute walk to the small port of Sivota, where you will find a relaxed, laid back atmosphere and a selection of tavernas, cafés and shops along the waterfront promenade. Further afield, boat trips are available to Paxos and Antipaxos. Gaios on Paxos is an exquisite miniature world, with quaint 19th century houses lining narrow, cobbled lanes. The smaller island of Antipaxos is equally special with beautiful remote beaches and little coves. An hour south of Sivota is Parga. Bursting with history, the impressive 14th century castle reflects the town’s varied history between the Venetians and Ottomans.Airport transfer time:Approx. 1 hour 15 minutes from Preveza airport

Activities
Dinghy Sailing

The sheltered waters and calm conditions make dinghy sailing for beginners ideal. In the afternoon the sailing area extends beyond the island for intermediates to make the most of the breeze further out.

Beginner sailing and RYA Level 1 sailing sessions run every morning from Monday to Friday, with Level 2 sessions in the afternoon when there is usually slightly more wind. We also run a series of clinics throughout the week covering Asymmetrics, Lasers, Dart 16 sailing and introduction to racing, with a regatta every Saturday. If you wish to join any of the tuition sessions, just sign up with one of the Neilson team who will guide you to the correct group for your ability. All tuition follows the Royal Yachting Association teaching scheme so you can progress in a fast, safe and fun environment.

Windsurfing

Light winds and calm seas means that windsurfing at the Retreat are really only suitable for beginner and improver windsurfers, occasionally there is more wind and most afternoons we extend the sailing area beyond a small offshore island to make more of the breeze.

Waterskiing and Wakeboarding

The Retreat Beachclub is one of Neilson’s best resorts forwith superb glassy conditions all day. We run tows from 8am until midday waterskiing and wakeboarding and then 3pm until 6pm, Monday to Saturday, so there is plenty of time for everybody to have a go. Neilson’s aim is that everybody who wants to ski or board will get at least two sessions per week and a maximum of one per day free of charge.

Dedicated skiers and boarders travelling to the Retreat Beachclub can opt for our Premium Waterski and Wakeboard package.

Mountain and Road Biking

The stunning coastline and lush, mountainous interior provide some great options for both road and mountain biking. There is usually a choice of up to ten guided mountain bike rides throughout the week. The longer more challenging rides are in the morning when the temperatures are a little cooler with easier rides for all abilities taking place in the afternoon. You will be rewarded with rocky tracks, lush green valleys, steep climbs, amazing views, rugged coastal tracks and technical single track. There are also a series of gentle rides with plenty of refreshment stops and opportunity to admire the scenery.

There are 4 guided road rides per week of varying distance. Friday is the ultimate road ride, an 80km round trip to Parga with rolling coastal roads, inland climbs and long descents. Really keen road bikers can pay a supplement of £75 per week to reserve a carbon frame bike.

Tennis

There are four courts at the Retreat Beachclub, two hard courts towards the top of the resort and two astroturf courts next to the yoga lawn where the group coaching sessions are held. At the beginning of the week, Neilson coaches split everybody into groups according to ability and run appropriate sessions 5 days per week covering the core skills, there are between 2-3 coaches looking after the group tennis programme and they also offer private one-to-one coaching for a small supplement (bookable locally).

Kayaking

Beautiful calm waters, an interesting coastline and off shore islands make this a wonderful place to try kayaking for the first time or for more experienced paddlers to get out and explore. Because this area is so well suited to paddle sports Neilson are able to offer taught tuition up to BCU 2 star from British Canoe Union (BCU) qualified coaches.
