A traditional resort with individual thatched dwellings close to Periyar National Park.
This unique holiday experience offers visitors a tribal village reborn for the modern traveller. Set in the highlands of Kerala and recreating the mood of the local community, Spice Village has been designed with charming individual cottages scattered amid a landscaped spice garden with a relaxed atmosphere.
Emphasising the flavours created by fresh spices, the chef specialises in Keralan cuisine and is also skilled in creating special tribally-influenced curries as well as excellent international fare. Evening cookery classes will teach you the tricks needed to recreate these flavours at home. Allow the tranquillity of this mystical land to infuse you in the yoga and meditation centre, or try a traditional Ayurvedic spa treatment. Guests can also relax in the lovely swimming pool, on the badminton court or with billiards at the Woodhouse Bar.
We particularly love the hotel’s eco practices. They use solar energy, produce their own drinking water, grow most of their own food on site and source the rest locally, and they completely avoid single-use plastic – something they’ve done for years.
