Taj Coral Reef Resort & Spa combines natural décor with modern luxuries. The house reef is one of the highlights here. As well as thousands of tropical fish and stingrays, it has its very own coral-covered shipwreck 22 metres underwater – perfect for divers to discover without even needing to board a boat. Back on land, the Jiva Spa offers soothing Indian-inspired massages.

Across the modern restaurants there’s a focus on fresh regional and international cuisine. Bokkura is a chic all-day dining venue with an artistic beach-inspired design, serving up a daily changing à la carte menu featuring world cuisine, while beside the pool at the tip of the island, Open – The Grill offers an Asian dining experience. For something a little more romantic, private dining options range from secluded sandbank picnics to wine cellar dinners. The cool Reef Bar, where the signature creation is a six-salt tequila shot tray featuring exotic salts such as Pink Himalayan, Red Hawaiian and Peruvian Maras, is a great spot for low-key evenings.

The villas have a rustic-luxe design, with neutral furnishings and natural features such as driftwood art pieces. There are two types of beach villa: Superior Charm Beach Villas and more spacious Deluxe Delight Beach Villas, while overwater the Premium Indulgence Water Villas follow the curve of one side of the island. For maximum space and privacy, the Two Bedroom Nirvana Beach Suites with Pool are two-storey suites with a plunge pool on the large deck.
