Beautiful Velidhu offers a fuss-free Maldives experience and focuses on its key elements: a stunning setting and warm hospitality. Iruara is the island’s only restaurant, but with the variety on offer it’s all you need, with buffet-style dishes alongside barbecued meat and fresh seafood. There are also occasional themed nights, and private dining experiences can be arranged on request – the romantic lobster dinner on the beach is a highlight. By day, the beachfront Light House Bar offers a relaxing spot for refreshing fruit juices or cocktails; by night it hosts low-key entertainment ranging from DJs to bingo! The vast lagoons that surround the island are gloriously clear and ideal for watersports. The watersports centre offers windsurfing, waterskiing and wakeboarding lessons, as well as catamaran sailing and diving. Some of the best snorkelling can be found on the excellent house reef, accessed directly from the beach, where you can see reef sharks, turtles and colourful corals. The Huvandhu Spa offers soothing treatments and healing remedies and is particularly popular with couples.

Bungalows are circular, with thatched roofs and neutral décor. In keeping with the island’s uncomplicated approach, there’s simply the choice of Beach Bungalows or Water Bungalows. Beach Bungalows are basic but comfortable, set amidst lush vegetation and just a few steps from the beach. Water Bungalows sit on stilts over the lagoon and have a small glass floor viewing window, allowing you to watch the marine life below.
