Diving and snorkelling in the Red Sea offer wonderful views of the reefs and marine life. For a land-based activity on holidays to Jordan, travel to the ancient town of Madaba, which has modern-day souks set amidst ancient artwork and ceramics. Amman has great shopping. Try Rainbow Street or the Al Balad area for handicrafts, then go to the City Mall for modern items. Abdali Boulevard is a high-rise area with unique stores on two levels. There are also several art galleries in town

Amman, the largest city, has a huge range of dishes unique to the region, such as stuffed camel, mansaf (lamb, rice, yoghurt and spices), and maqluba (meat, vegetables and rice). The more well-known falafel and hummus are also favourites. For restaurants, try Fakhr El-Din or Sufra for Middle Eastern dishes (both in Amman), or Al-Shami in Aqaba. Papaya in Aqaba serves Mediterranean fare, and Brisket in Amman has American and Barbeque dishes. Be sure to sample some tasty Arabic coffee!

Petra, the restored ancient city in the south of Jordan, is not to be missed. Plan a full day for the trip - you'll be glad you did. The Roman city of Jerash looks eerily like the people just left, even though it's been thousands of years. The Wadi Mujib is Jordan's version of the Grand Canyon, and is also a nature preserve. Even larger, the Dana Nature Preserve has a more rugged landscape with stunning viewpoints. Lastly, visit the Azraq Wetlands for something unique and divine.

Arrival into Amman

Fly into Amman where you’ll be greeted and directly transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to spend at your leisure. INCLUDES : Breakfast

Amman - Desert Castles - Amman City Tour

Start your day with a tour of the Desert Castles, stunning examples of early Islamic art and architecture; the mosaics, frescoes, stone and stucco carvings and illustrations depict life in the 8th century. Head back to Amman for a guided tour of Jordan’s capital city – visit the citadel, Umayyad Palace and Byzantine churches before walking through the Archaeological and Folklore Museums. INCLUDES : Breakfast

Amman - Pella - Umm Qais - Amman

The first stop on today’s tour is the ancient town of Pella where you can explore the Graeco-Roman ruins, walled cities from the Bronze and Iron Ages and Byzantine churches. Carry on to the hilltop town of Umm Qais overlooking the Jordan Valley and filled with jet-black sarcophagi and an underground mausoleum. INCLUDES : Breakfast

Amman - Jerash - Dead Sea - Amman

Be sure to put on your walking shoes! Begin the day walking through the ancient city of Jerash - marvel at the Roman architecture as you stroll colonnaded streets, hilltop temples and public square and amble along city walls pierced by towers and gates. Give your feet a rest as you drive to the lowest point on earth, the Dead Sea where you’ll have the chance to float on the saline (and supposedly therapeutic) waters. INCLUDES : Breakfast

Amman - Madaba - Mount Nebo - Kerak - Petra

Travel along the 2,000 year old King’s Highway, making your first stop of the day at Madaba, home to a 6th century mosaic map of the Holy Land. Continue your journey along the road to Mount Nebo; rising 840 metres, this is both the alleged burial place of Moses and a fantastic spot to snap pictures as you look out over the Holy Land. The final stop is Kerak – a 12th century Crusader castle perched on a hilltop nearly 1,000 metres above the sea. End the day with your arrival into Petra for an overnight stay. INCLUDES : Breakfast

Full Day Tour of Petra

You can tick Petra off your travel bucket list as you embark on a full day tour of this awe-inspiring UNESCO World Heritage Site with the assistance of a professional guide. Begin your exploration of the 2,000 year old tombs, palaces and temples of the ‘Red Rose City’ with a walk through the narrow canyon before catching your first glimpse of Petra as you approach Al Khazneh, the treasury monument. INCLUDES : Breakfast
