Explore the highlights of Jordan Tour
Your journey through Jordan begins in the modern capital, Amman with day excursions to the ancient towns of Pella and Umm Qais, the Graeco-Roman city of Jaresh and the salty waters of the Dead Sea. Drive along the King’s Highway, stopping to look out over the Holy Land before spending a couple of nights in Petra – full day tour with professional guide included! End your trip with an exhilarating drive through Wadi Rum.
Diving and snorkelling in the Red Sea offer wonderful views of the reefs and marine life. For a land-based activity on holidays to Jordan, travel to the ancient town of Madaba, which has modern-day souks set amidst ancient artwork and ceramics. Amman has great shopping. Try Rainbow Street or the Al Balad area for handicrafts, then go to the City Mall for modern items. Abdali Boulevard is a high-rise area with unique stores on two levels. There are also several art galleries in town
Amman, the largest city, has a huge range of dishes unique to the region, such as stuffed camel, mansaf (lamb, rice, yoghurt and spices), and maqluba (meat, vegetables and rice). The more well-known falafel and hummus are also favourites. For restaurants, try Fakhr El-Din or Sufra for Middle Eastern dishes (both in Amman), or Al-Shami in Aqaba. Papaya in Aqaba serves Mediterranean fare, and Brisket in Amman has American and Barbeque dishes. Be sure to sample some tasty Arabic coffee!
Petra, the restored ancient city in the south of Jordan, is not to be missed. Plan a full day for the trip - you'll be glad you did. The Roman city of Jerash looks eerily like the people just left, even though it's been thousands of years. The Wadi Mujib is Jordan's version of the Grand Canyon, and is also a nature preserve. Even larger, the Dana Nature Preserve has a more rugged landscape with stunning viewpoints. Lastly, visit the Azraq Wetlands for something unique and divine.
