Upon arrival into Cape Town collect your car at the airport and make the short drive into the city to the exclusive One & Only Cape Town. Take a drive down the Cape Peninsula to see the penguins at Boulders Beach or catch a cab out to Camp’s Bay to indulge in the beach side cafe and bar scene. Cape Town to Franschhoek

Leave the city behind and start your road trip with the easy journey inland to the winelands. In the heart of this beautiful region is the picturesque town of Franschhoek, with its unmistakably French influence. The Last Word offers understated luxury with just 8 rooms, a gorgeous swimming pool and delightful French Provencal decor. This is a great base from which to enjoy delicious wine tastings as well as the region’s now legendary food scene.

Franschhoek to Oudtshoorn

Take the scenic mountain pass out of town, stopping for a gorgeous view back over Franschhoek, before joining Route 62 which takes you into the semi-desert region known as the Karoo. Here you will find the ‘ostrich farming capital of the world’, centred around the town of Oudtshoorn. At the edge of town is Rosenhof Country House, named after the rose gardens that surround this beautiful Cape Dutch property. Stop at the Cango Caves and one of the local ostrich farms en route to your hotel so you can relax amid Rosenhof’s home comforts once you arrive.

Oudtshoorn to Plettenberg Bay

Today’s journey takes you south, out of the arid Karoo and on to the legendary Garden Route. This coastal drive whisks you past sweeping beaches, through small towns and across swathes of protected forests. Finish the day at the unique Tsala Treetop Lodge where guests sleep amid the forest canopy, experiencing romance, luxury and adventure.

Knysna to Eastern Cape Safari

As you follow the Garden Route to its end you will soon approach the outstanding Shamwari Game Reserve. This privately owned reserve is large enough to support 2 lion prides along with the rest of the Big 5 as well as giraffes, zebras and an array of antelopes. The reserve also boasts a wildlife rehabilitation centre, which guests can visit to see the invaluable work taking place. In this luxurious game reserve Eagles Crag is the pinnacle of luxury offering remarkable views alongside privacy and exclusivity. Ensure you arrive by early afternoon to take advantage of your first day’s game drive.

Shamwari Game Reserve

At dawn’s first light your driver and guide will arrive to collect you for the day’s first safari game drive. Head out into the bush as Africa’s famous wildlife is waking up and while the dawn chorus chimes around you the guide will be in search of the Big 5. Lions, rhinos, elephants and buffalo are all resident here, and the elusive leopard is not an uncommon visitor. After the game drive enjoy breakfast back at the lodge and time to relax during the peak of the day. In the late afternoon return to the bush for another game drive to another part of the reserve before a hearty evening meal.

Eastern Cape Safari to UK

On your last day in South Africa you will enjoy a final game drive with your guide, and breakfast at the lodge, before checking out and returning to civilisation. It is a short drive to Port Elizabeth Airport where you will drop off your car ahead of the connecting flight home.
