This Italian summer village-style residence has arresting views of the still jewel-blue water and pretty cliffs of the Bay of Kotor (Boka Bay). It’s just two hours from Dubrovnik and 10 minutes from Tivat airport, making it perfect for a twin-centre holiday where you can retreat to the UNESCO-protected Bay of Kotor, on the edge of the luxurious Porto Montenegro village among designer stores and superyachts moored in front of the hotel’s grand yellow façade.

Its charm is continued within, from the plush interiors of Murano Restaurant to the tranquil Library Bar terrace which looks out to a water feature that’s peppered with tea lights at night. As you might expect in these luxurious surrounds, the service is exemplary. There’s a 20-metre infinity lap pool for morning swims overlooking the bay, four pools at the new Aqua Wing and guests also receive a discount for entry to the stylish Yacht Club just few minutes’ walk away, where its über-cool pool stretches out right over the water (at extra cost).

Back at the hotel, dining is decadent­­. There’s a patisserie counter of tempting fruit tarts and macarons and a light savoury menu at Gourmet Corner, or you can sink into an armchair with a drink and soak up the Library Bar’s sophisticated vibe. Meals are served at the graceful Murano Restaurant with dishes showcasing regional seafood like calamari straight from the Adriatic Sea. For an extra special dining experience, opt for an intimate dinner in the Italian Garden for vistas of the sparkling bay and marina.

There are 87 modern nautical rooms and suites in the original Venezia Wing.
