This 11 night journey through Malaysia sees you travel from Kota Kinabalu to the Danum Valley, spending time on an island resort, before ending in the country’s capital. Float in natural hot springs, hand feed orangutans, trek through the jungle spotting proboscis monkeys and go ‘tubing’ down the Danum River. Spend three nights relaxing at Gaya Island Resort and explore Kuala Lumpur on a Heritage Trail walking tour.

Fly into Kota Kinabalu and check into Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort, your base for the next two nights. Spend the day at your leisure, enjoying the resort’s facilities.

Today is a free day to relax or if you’re feeling energetic, explore Kinabalu Park and Poring Hot Spring on a full day excursion (optional extra). Travel through villages, paddy fields and stop at Nabalu Market for local produce and handicrafts before arriving at Kinabalu Park. Go on nature walks through the Botanic Garden home to a wide variety of plants, birds and butterflies. Sit down to lunch at a local restaurant then drive to Poring Hot Spring. Let the natural waters soothe tired limbs and test your nerves 41 metres above the ground on a canopy walkway through the jungle.

Danum Valley Borneo Rainforest Lodge

Breakfast early before catching your flight to Lahad Datu Airport and upon arrival proceed to Borneo Nature Tours office for registration and briefing. It’s a 2 1/2 hour transfer through the 43800 hectares of rainforest to reach the resort. This afternoon you’ll be introduced to your new environment through “Nature Trails” and the tree top “Canopy Walkway” which is 300m in length and 26m at the highest point, for a close-up observation of the rainforest canopy. After dinner at the resort you’ll have a Night Drive in an open-top vehicle in search of nocturnal animal.

You’ll be greeted by the call of the surrounding wildlife at breakfast before heading off on a trek to the Kadazandusun burial site – “Coffin Cliff”. It’s then onto“View Point” for a bird’s eye view of the area. Back to the resort for lunch and this afternoon’s activity is a relaxing session of “tubing” down the Danum River (subject to weather and water level condition). After dinner, head off in search of nocturnal animals in the rainforest.

It’s you’r last full day in the remote and naturally stunning part of the workd! After an early breakfast trek to Fairy Falls and Serpent Falls looking out for local wildlife on the way. Return to the lodge for lunch. Afternoon optional actitivies : Guided trekking along Segama River or guest’s own leisure

Danum Valley / Lahad Datu / Kota Kinabalu / Gaya Island Resort

After check out depart for your flight from Lahad Datu to Kota Kinabalu. Upon arrival at Kota Kinabalu, transfer to the jetty for a scheduled 45 minute boat journey to Gaya Island Resort, your tranquil base for the next three nights.

Make sure to wear comfortable shoes as you are led through the city on a Heritage Trail walking tour. Visit clan houses, pre-war buildings, temples and squares. Accommodation: The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
